David and Whitney brought the boys up on Wednesday. It was sunny and so beautiful outside. I went to the cabin a little early to get the water turned on and the heaters turned up. We were all amazed at the snow in front of the cabin. It began melting fast. When the boys went for a walk, they had just as much fun throwing rocks into the puddles as in the river.
Emmett and Mak are standing on the huge snowdrift at the end of our driveway. There is so much snow in Island Park. It was so much fun having the little boys there for a few days. Mak wanted me to bring caramel to the cabin. It was so tempting for me, so I ate quite a bit along with the boys.
David and Whitney climbed onto the snowdrift too. But I zoomed in just to get them closer. They looked so cute together. David bought Mak a fishing pole. It was a Spiderman pole with a plastic fish on the end. He would go to the loft and cast the plastic fish off the stairs and then real it in. Later they bought worms and tried there luck in the river. It was very relaxing throwing rocks and watching the birds fly under the bridge.
We had so much fun going for walks, but a lot of mud all around. Whitney made some cute bows and head bands for their little girl. It will be so much fun having a cute little girl running around. Mak and Emmett will be good big brothers. Whitney brought muffins, donuts, and pizza up for us to eat. That was great as I really don't like to cook at the cabin. It is just fun watching movies and visiting. Mike had court Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, so he didn't get to the cabin until Thursday night. Mak had us call him to bring King Kong. He would watch that movie at the old cabin, so he knows it is a cabin movie. I also have made pillowcases with deer, fish and bears on them, so he knows they are the cabin pillows. Emmett likes looking at the fish too.
We take advantage of being so close to Yellowstone. We saw several babies and mother buffalo on the river. The ranger gave Mak and Emmett each a map. So each time we jumped out of the car to see an animal, Mak had his map with him. He liked pointing out the buffalo and elk that were along the road.
The buffalo were very close to us. But the stump was very good protection incase a buffalo wanted to get a little closer. Mak has his map.
Mak has always loved looking through binoculars. The rock was perfect for him to sit and look at the buffalo a bit better.
There were a few elk along the river just eating. They really didn't care that we were there getting pictures. Emmett was looking back at the elk and wondering if he would get any closer.
Mak has his map with him as he compares the picture of the elk to the elk he is looking at.
You just cannot get enough pictures of these cute little boys. They were so good as we traveled. We had a few snacks in the car for them.
David was so close to the elk. He picked some grass and wanted it to eat out of his hand. But the elk was a bit startled and moved away from him.
We stopped at a geyser basin and walked around. We remember last year when we walked around the basin with both Michael and David's families. It was cold and windy then. We felt so bad for the kids trying to keep warm. But the pictures we took of both families are priceless. Wish they lived closer to us.
Emmett is having the most fun just wading in the puddles of cold melted snow. What kid doesn't love throwing rocks and watching the water splash. Lucky that Whitney had several pair of shoes for the boys so we could let them dry. After playing in the mud, he had splats of mud on his clothes, face and hands. Good times.
You are such a hunk, Mike. It is so much fun always hanging out with you. You are my very best friend. Thanks for the good life.
If you can believe it, this is Big Springs. They must have barely plowed the road from Macks Inn. We had to climb snow drifts to get to the docks. The sun was shining, and soon Mak and Emmett had their shoes off and wanting David and Whitney to put them in the river. We did see a few fish and a muskrat. The boys threw in bread pieces and just watched it float under the bridge for another fish to eat. We wish we could have stayed all day. So pretty and peaceful.
