Trip to Yellowstone with Grandma Robison

We were expecting David and Whitney to come to the cabin for the weekend. So Mike and I needed to get to the cabin and get the water and heaters turned on. We called up my mom around 9:30 and told her that we would pick her up around 11:00 for a nice drive to Island Park. After we turned on the heaters and water, we couldn't resist the opportunity to drive to check on the buffalo in the park. Well, we saw this baby buffalo in the middle of the road, looking for its mother, who had crossed the road already. It was crying and cars on both sides limiting its sight of its mother. My mother watched the baby finally getting to the other side and finding its mother. We watched as it jumped up and down kicking its feet and wagged its tail. Guess that is how we all act when we see our mom after a brief separation.

We walked around this geyser, the mist was very heavy, and there went our poofy hair and good rat jobs.

We crossed the river to get to the geysers, and these buffalo wanted to be close to the warm water also.

We took turns taking each others pictures with the steamy mist in the background. It is always fun to take Mom with us. She said that she hadn't walked around the geysers for years. Dad would rush by and need to get on Yellowstone Lake and get the boat permit. Mom looked back thinking about all of the responsibility of taking all the kids, food, camping gear and equipment in the boat to last a week. She was so nervous as she looked back on those memories. I told her that we all have great memories of those trips and so glad Mom and Dad provided those good times for us. Those were great trips. I get nervous thinking of the time I hooked Rick with the three pronged hook. Dad had to cut it out with a knife. Ricks suntan went white and pale. Sorry Rick. Times the bears opened the MandM packages, times when we had five fish on the poles at a time, yes, those were good times for the Robison family. We thank Dad for always taking us. He said in one of his history writings that "we were his friends and he liked spending time with us," and he and Mom were our best friends.

We had to hurry to take this picture before the buffalo walked to the other side.

We took this picture as one was leaving the bridge and before the other one walked across.
We had a great trip, lunch at Subway, bought a pizza to eat at Moms in the evening, and talked for hours. She is a great Mom to us and has always been a great example to follow.

  1. What a fun trip! I can't believe how close you guys got to those buffalo! Be careful! :) I agree with what you said about the deer not being able to see his mom...and was anxious when he finally could. :) I even had to make my own lunch today after work. :) Love you! Job on keeping up on your blog. I'm still working on it.
